What the GitHub Copilot Subsidy in Singapore Covers for NTUC Members

GitHub Copilot is among the 21.5 AI tools approved for UTAP subscription support under the AI-Ready SG initiative. For NTUC members who rely on GitHub Copilot as part of their daily work, this means part of the subscription cost can now be offset through an existing funding scheme.

Vertical Institute’s AI course is one of the qualifying options, and finishing it opens up two claims under a single annual cap:

  • UTAP support on your course fee – Government subsidies are applied to the course fee first. NTUC members then claim 50% UTAP support on the balance. The annual cap sits at $500 for members aged 40 and above, and $250 for those under 40.

  • UTAP support on your GitHub Copilot subscription – Within one year of finishing the course, members can subscribe to GitHub Copilot and file a separate UTAP claim for 50% support on the subscription cost. The subscription start date must fall between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2028, and the claim must reach NTUC within 6 months of that start date.

  • Confirm that GitHub Copilot is still on NTUC’s approved tool list at the time of subscription, as the list is reviewed regularly. The subscription must be for your personal use only and declared as such when filing the claim. Any claim submitted outside the 6-month window will not be processed.

I love how the course focused on prompt engineering concepts: from zero-shot prompting to chain-of-thought reasoning, where you guide the AI through step-by-step logic. My instructor didn’t just teach us to use these tools; he made us understand that prompt engineering is part psychology, part linguistics, and part strategic thinking. Very useful for my consulting career.

FAQs About GitHub Copilot Subsidy in Singapore

What is GitHub Copilot, and how can it benefit my career?

GitHub Copilot is an AI coding assistant developed by GitHub and OpenAI that works inside your development environment. It suggests code, generates functions, and supports documentation across more than 50 programming languages. For developers and tech professionals, it reduces time spent on repetitive coding tasks and helps maintain code quality across projects.

What is the GitHub Copilot subsidy in Singapore?

Under the AI-Ready SG initiative, NTUC expanded UTAP from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2028 to cover subscription costs for selected AI tools. GitHub Copilot is among the 21 tools on the approved list. Eligible NTUC members can receive 50% UTAP support on their GitHub Copilot subscription, subject to completing a qualifying AI course and the annual cap.

Which Vertical Institute courses make me eligible for GitHub Copilot subscription support?

Two courses at Vertical Institute are UTAP-approved AI courses: Generative AI (Level 1) and the Data Science course. Completing either with a minimum of 75% attendance qualifies you to submit a UTAP claim for your GitHub Copilot subscription.

What are the steps to claim UTAP support for GitHub Copilot?

First, complete the UTAP-approved Generative AI (Level 1) course at Vertical Institute with at least 75% attendance. Next, subscribe to GitHub Copilot within one year of your course end date. Then access the NTUC U Portal via Singpass, go to E-Services, select “AI Tools Subscription Claim,” and submit your claim within 6 months of your subscription start date. Late submissions are not accepted. For the full claim process and eligibility conditions, refer to the NTUC website directly.

Can I use SkillsFuture Credit and UTAP for the same course?

Yes. SkillsFuture Credit is deducted first from your remaining course fee after government subsidies are applied. UTAP support is then claimed separately through the NTUC portal after the course is completed. Members who meet the attendance requirement may also submit a separate UTAP claim for their GitHub Copilot subscription costs, within the annual cap.

How should I choose a SkillsFuture-supported AI course?

Those browsing a SkillsFuture Courses List can consider enrolling in Vertical Institute’s Generative AI course because of our strong emphasis on practical applications tailored to non-tech professionals.

Is GitHub Copilot confirmed on NTUC's approved AI tool list?

Yes.GitHub Copilot is one of the 21 tools approved for UTAP subscription support. Since NTUC reviews the approved list periodically, members are encouraged to verify GitHub Copilot’s current status on the NTUC U Portal before subscribing.

What if I am not an NTUC member?

The AI tool subscription support under UTAP is exclusively for NTUC members. Non-members can still enrol in the course and access SSG subsidies and SkillsFuture Credit, as long as they are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Can I claim UTAP support for GitHub Copilot and another AI tool?

Yes. You may file UTAP claims for more than one approved AI tool within the same year, provided your total claims stay within the annual cap. Monthly receipts for the same tool can be grouped into a single claim as long as the billing periods are consecutive and non-overlapping.

Does my GitHub Copilot subscription need to start within a specific period?

Yes. The subscription must begin between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2028. Any subscription taken up before 1 May 2026 is not eligible for UTAP support, even if the qualifying course was completed after that date.

What if I miss the 6-month claim deadline?

UTAP does not grant extensions. Claims submitted more than 6 months after your subscription start date are automatically rejected. Mark the date when you first subscribe and schedule a reminder to file your claim well before the window closes.

Do I need coding experience to join this course?

No. Vertical Institute’s AI course is structured for working adults across all backgrounds and starts from the ground up. Even if you have never written a line of code, you can follow the curriculum and build a working understanding of generative AI tools and techniques.

What AI tools will be covered during the course?

Participants gain experience with a broad set of tools, including ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, and Suno. The programme is designed to give you practical exposure across platforms so your skills are not tied to any one tool.

What certification will I receive?

Participants who attend at least 75% of sessions and pass all required assessments receive a WSQ Statement of Attainment from SkillsFuture Singapore, as well as a digital certificate from Vertical Institute. Both are recognised by employers in Singapore.

How do I reserve my spot, and what is the refund policy?

Pay a S$10.90 registration fee on the Vertical Institute website (inclusive of GST) to secure your place. This fee is non-refundable. For course fees, refunds follow a tiered schedule: withdrawals more than 14 days before the start date receive a full refund, those made 7 to 14 days prior receive 50%, and no refund is given for withdrawals within 7 days or after the course has begun. A $15 administrative charge applies to all approved withdrawals. For full details, refer to our Terms and Conditions or get in touch with our team.
