How to Unlock Career Help with the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme

By Vertical InstituteAugust 15, 2025

In today’s unpredictable job market, even experienced professionals can face sudden unemployment. Retrenchments, company restructures, and shifting industry demands have caught many mid-career workers off guard.

On top of that, roles once seen as stable are now being replaced by automation and emerging technologies, leaving some unsure of their next move.To support those affected, the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme was developed as a national programme to help Singaporeans regain career momentum and move forward with purpose.

In the words of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong:

“We will do our best to steer Singapore through these choppy waters and provide assistance to any worker who needs help… The SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme will provide help for lower and middle-income Singaporeans who get laid off or retrenched.”

This article breaks down how the scheme works, who it’s designed for, and what practical support you can expect—whether that’s coaching or training.

What Is the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme?

The SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme is administered by Workforce Singapore (WSG), a statutory board under the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). It’s part of a broader national effort to ensure that Singaporeans have the tools and support needed to stay employable, even during unexpected career transitions.

At its core, the scheme provides:

  • Career coaching to guide job seekers through resume building, interview prep, and goal setting

  •  Temporary financial support of up to S$6,000 over six months for active job seekers, with separate training allowances available through programs like SkillsFuture Level-Up or Mid-Career Pathways.

  • Job matching support, connecting participants with hiring employers through curated platforms and events

  • Access to digital tools like Career Finder to help individuals identify their strengths and align them with market opportunities

Who Can Benefit from This Scheme?

The SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support Scheme is targeted at lower- and middle-income Singaporeans who are involuntarily unemployed and need structured support to return to the workforce. It’s especially relevant for those who have lost their jobs due to retrenchment, company closure, dismissal, or health-related issues.

How Do You Qualify for Payouts Under the Jobseeker Support Scheme?

To qualify for payouts:

  • First 3 months: You must earn at least 10 points per month
  • Next 3 months: You must earn at least 5 points per month

⚠️ Payout Limits Based on Your Previous Income

Your monthly payouts will not exceed your average gross salary from your last job.

For instance, if your previous income was $900 a month, that will be the maximum you can receive, even in months where the scheme allows payouts of $1,250 or more.

🛑 What Happens If You Get a Job?

If you return to work during the scheme, financial support will end the month after you’re re-employed.

This ensures support is targeted at those actively seeking work.
