What You Cannot Use It For

While SkillsFuture Credit supports most upskilling courses, there are limits. You cannot use your credit for:

  • Courses not listed on MySkillsFuture.gov.sg
  • Overseas courses or conferences
  • Private degree or diploma programmes that are not registered under approved training providers
  • Workshops or certifications not aligned with Singapore’s Skills Framework
  • Full-time education in local universities or polytechnics

Each eligible course clearly displays the SkillsFuture Credit logo and the option to claim funding.

Stretch Your SkillsFuture Credit Further with Other Funding Schemes – Pay Little to Zero Cash

Your SkillsFuture Credit is only one part of Singapore’s funding ecosystem for learners looking to upskill. When combined with other available schemes, you can offset a large portion of your course fees, sometimes even the full amount. Here’s how each type of support works when applying for a Vertical Institute course.

SSG (SkillsFuture Singapore) Subsidy

All Singapore Citizens (SCs) and Permanent Residents (PRs) receive an automatic subsidy from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) when applying for approved courses. You do not need to apply for SSG separately.

The SSG subsidy is applied during your course application, and your invoice will already show the discounted amount.

  • SCs and PRs under 40: 50% off the full course fee (before GST)
  • SCs aged 40 and above: 70% off the full course fee (before GST)

NTUC UTAP (Union Training Assistance Programme)

NTUC members can claim up to 50% of their remaining unfunded course fees through UTAP, capped at $250 per year if under 40, or $500 per year if aged 40 and above. UTAP applies after other subsidies. Claims can be made through the NTUC U Portal within six months of completing the course.

Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA)

If you are under 31, you can use your PSEA funds to pay for approved courses. To check your balance, call MOE’s 24-hour automated hotline at 6260 0777 and follow the instructions. To use your PSEA, complete the PSEA Ad Hoc Withdrawal Form on FormSG before your course begins.

Stacking Your Funding

When combined strategically, these schemes can significantly lower your out-of-pocket expenses.

  1. The SSG subsidy is automatically applied during application.
  2. You can then use your SkillsFuture Credit to cover the remaining balance.
  3. If eligible, apply for UTAP or use PSEA funds for any outstanding amount.

This layered approach ensures that learners of different ages and career stages can access career-relevant courses affordably.Related Article: How To Claim NTUC UTAP Funding? Updated Guide 2025
